Ian Bell accepts a cheque for £266.50 from Paul Griffin, chairman Exeter Market Auctioneers at Exeter Livestock Market's Christmas Fatstock Show 2005. This was raised during the year by farmers selling at Exeter market who have joined the Fund's 'Give a Little, Make a Lot' fundraising scheme.

(Taken from Western Morning News 03/08/2005) EXETER Market Auctioneers have sent a further cheque for £110 to the ARC-Addington Fund representing donations collected from vendors who have subscribed to the Fund's 'Give a Little, Make a Lot' initiative. "This is exactly how we envisaged the scheme working" said Ian Bell, director of the Fund. "Requesting 5p from sheep and pigs and 25p from cattle we are hopefully not asking any individual for too much, but the accumulative effect from markets all around the country on a monthly and quarterly basis is terrific." Members of the Livestock Auctioneers' Association collect the donations on a voluntary basis so no money is wasted.

The Fund received thousands of letters following cash grants. Many expressed the desire to return the generosity when times improved. Self-help from within the industry gives a great message when fundraising elsewhere.
The Fund is asking you to donate a 5p per head for sheep and pigs and 25p for cattle from the sale price of your animals through this voluntary scheme. The ability of the Fund to provide aid during FMD was entirely due to the power of small donations.

Run in conjunction with the Livestock Auctioneers’ Association, this aims both to raise money and emphasise the social and economic importance of livestock markets.
LIVESTOCK MARKETS

As farm incomes have declined house prices have escalated, leading to a situation where many farmers will have to give up their home with no prospect of being able to buy a house locally. The Scheme addresses this problem.

The Fund buys a house specifically for successful applicants. They can choose the property and location. This is then rented back to them and a shared equity arrangement is possible.

When there is no longer a need, the property is sold and the money is available for others.

The Scheme is financially viable and sustainable. Income from properties meets all costs. All donations go directly towards another purchase, not into administration. This ensures a build up of equity that will be available for further generations.
